The Israeli Olympic delegation competed in the 2008 Summer Olympic Games held in Beijing, China. Of Israel’s 14 Olympic delegations, this team was the largest until that time with 23 men and 20 women participating. With about half the delegation participants under the age of 23, the delegation was also the youngest in Israel’s history.
While there were many great performances by Israeli athletes, it was Shahar Tzuberi who won a bronze medal in windsurfing for team Israel. Interestingly, Tzuberi’s uncle was an athlete in the infamous 1972 Summer Olympic games in Munich, Germany in which Palestinian terrorist group Black September launched a deadly attack on the Israeli athletes. Tzuberi’s uncle was one of the Israelis who managed to escape the massacre.
