Israeli born basketball player, Omri Casspi, born on June 22, 1988, made history when he was selected as the 23rd pick in the first round of the NBA draft by the Sacramento Kings. In his debut on the court with the Kings on October 28, 2009, Casspi became the first Israeli to play in the NBA. Despite the pressure, he managed to score an impressive 15 points in his first game.
While Casspi was recently joined in the NBA by fellow Israeli basketball player, Gal Mekel, who signed a 3 year contract in 2013 with the Dallas Mavericks, Casspi will forever hold the honors of being the first Israeli to be selected in the first round of the NBA draft and the first Israeli to play in an NBA game.
